Back in April, reliable Resident Evil franchise leakers indicated that Capcom was pursuing a full-fledged Resident Evil 4 remake. While nothing official has been announced, the leakers in question have a lot of credibility, having accurately leaked things like the Resident Evil 3 remake, Resident Evil 8 details, and much more. Now one of the RE4 remake leakers has some bad news to share for fans who are hoping to see the game soon.

Responding to someone on Twitter, frequent Resident Evil franchise leaker AestheticGamer reiterated that the Resident Evil 4 remake is "happening," but that anyone expecting to see the game this year will be disappointed. Previously, rumors have indicated that Capcom is looking for the Resident Evil 4 remake release date to be at some point in 2022, so it makes sense that the company is holding off on revealing it so early.

Not only that, but there is another main series Resident Evil game on the way before RE4 remake, and so Capcom likely doesn't want to steal its thunder. Resident Evil 8 is launching in 2021, so fans of the franchise can expect the company to focus primarily on marketing that game for now. It would be surprising to see Capcom even acknowledge the Resident Evil 4 remake's existence until after RE8 is released.

The rumored Resident Evil 8 release date is some time in January to March of next year, so fans shouldn't expect to learn about the Resident Evil 4 remake in an official capacity until after that point. That being said, leakers have given Resident Evil fans somewhat of an idea of what to expect from the new game.

Apparently, the Resident Evil 4 remake will have some new story content for fans to experience, with leakers hinting that the infamous Chainsaw Man will get some additional story elements. Gameplay-wise, it's been suggested that the Resident Evil 4 remake will be ditching tank controls for a more modern control scheme, not unlike what was featured in recent third-person RE games like the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes.

Of course, fans should take all of this information with a grain of salt until Capcom itself decides to reveal more details. However, given the company's tendency to remake Resident Evil games constantly, one has to imagine that an RE4 remake is a pretty safe bet.

Resident Evil 4 remake is rumored to be in a development.
