Capcom has been on a remake spree since the Japanese developer put out the reimagining of Resident Evil 2 a couple of years back. After that, fans were treated to a remake of the Jill Valentine-led Resident Evil 3, and now it's time for Resident Evil 4 to get the same treatment.

Resident Evil 4 stars Leon Kennedy, the same rookie cop that appeared in Resident Evil 2, but this time he's an official employee of the US government and is tasked with rescuing the president's daughter, Ashley, from some parasite-infected Spaniards. For fans of the original (or newbies) wondering just how long the remake takes to beat, this guide will give players the info they need to know.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Length

Game Rant's reviewer for the Resident Evil 4 remake managed to beat the game and roll credits in just under 12 hours. For those wondering, that time did involve a lot of backtracking to complete over half of the game's side quests. If someone were to complete every side quest and unlock everything there is to unlock, it might take upwards of 20-25 hours.

To compare, How Long to Beat lists the original Resident Evil 4's main story completion time at around 15 hours-- most people take around 30 hours for 100% completion. Of course, the main reason why the remake might be a shorter game is because Capcom stripped down the experience in some sections to create a more streamlined experience for new players and returning fans.

Is the Ada Campaign in the Game?

Those looking forward to playing as Ada after beating Leon's campaign might be bummed out to hear that Assignment Ada has been cut from the Resident Evil 4 remake. The mode in the original game wasn't as long as the main story, but it was still neat to play as Ada and see things from her point of view.

What About Mercenaries Mode?

Another bummer for hardcore Resident Evil 4 fans: The Mercenaries mode will not be available at the launch for the remake. Capcom has promised that the mode will come as part of a free update post-launch, but there's no confirmed date yet.

The Mercenaries is essentially a single-player combat-focused minigame that relies on players racking up a high score in a limited amount of time.

Resident Evil 4 launches on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
