Even though Resident Evil 4 has been ported and remastered countless times since its original 2005 launch on the Nintendo GameCube, it hasn't stopped fan excitement over the remake. Utilizing Capcom's latest in-house tech called RE Engine, Resident Evil 4 Remake has already proven to be a big hit with both critics and fans alike. In fact, Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold over 3 million copies in the first two days or release and is quickly outpacing the GameCube version.

The game retains much of what made the original so popular with players, tasking Leon Kennedy with locating and saving the president's daughter against a new outbreak called Las Plagas in an unnamed rural village in Spain. However, Capcom has made a number of updates and improvements to the overall game, modernizing aspects which have since become outdated including the movement and control schemes.

In typical Resident Evil fashion, players are encouraged to play through RE4 multiple times thanks to an overall score as well as plenty of secrets and unlockables linked to their overall performance. This includes various weapons like the Chicago Sweeper Submachine gun, which needs to be unlocked before it is available to use in-game.

How to Unlock the Chicago Sweeper Submachine Gun

Taking over for the original Chicago Typewriter from the original game, the Chicago Sweeper is a submachine gun that is longer and heavier than traditional weapons in this class. The "Tommy Gun" style it sports helps reduce recoil and is great for suppressive fire.

In order to unlock the unique Chicago Sweeper, players will need to finish the Leon "A." Kennedy Challenge. To do this, the main Resident Evil 4 story needs to be completed on Professional difficulty while earning an A rank overall. It's worth noting that Professional difficulty is only unlocked after Resident Evil 4 is beaten once, so players will need to play through the game at least twice. In addition, the A rank requirement for Professional difficulty means finishing the campaign in under 7 hours.

Once this objective has been met, the Chicago Sweeper appears in the Typewriter Storage. Players can sell the weapon for 25,000 Pesetas, though it'll cost double at 50,000 Pesetas in order to reacquire it.

Chicago Sweeper Upgrades and Details

The Chicago Sweeper can have its Power, Ammo Capacity, Reload Speed, and Rate of Fire upgraded to a maximum of level 5. However, it's worth noting that the Rate of Fire is fixed at 2.50, so upgrading this stat is worthless. Ammo capacity starts at 50, though it can be upgraded to a maximum of 70, while Power is set to 2 and Reload Speed is 0.93. Naturally, with its exclusive upgrade, the Chicago Sweeper is automatically one of the best guns in Resident Evil 4, though it is a weapon that seems to excel more at middle to close range.

In addition, the Sweeper comes with an exclusive upgrade after fully upgrading the weapon or using an Exclusive Upgrade Ticket traded by the merchant. This upgrade gives the weapon unlimited ammo, similar to three other special weapon types in Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
