Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 4 changes several things around from the 2005 original, but something that remains mostly the same is the village encounter in the game's first chapter. After getting through a few introductory sections, Leon will encounter a relatively large village that is home to many Plagas-infested villagers that are ready to take players down using any means necessary. If players pause the game during this sequence, the objective will simply say, "Fight them off." For anyone new to Resident Evil 4 and who isn't sure how to pass this section, this guide will help.
How to Survive the Village Attack and 'Fight Them off'
The first thing that Resident Evil 4 players need to know about this village sequence is that it is on a timer, and there's no way to escape the villagers' attack. The only thing players can do at this point is to run around the village and try and survive for a few minutes. This sequence will usually last around 3-5 minutes, but the timer can decrease if players decide to defeat a lot of enemies. For those that want to conserve ammo and health by avoiding all enemies, the timer might end up on the longer side.
With that being said, there are a couple of tips players can use to make sure they take as little damage as possible while also defeating enemies --and it's still worth killing some of the villagers since they drop important resources like ammo, herbs, money, and grenades.
Tips for Surviving the Fight
- Looking at the image above, players will see two red circles. The house on the north side contains a shotgun Leon can pick up. Run inside the building, barricade the door, and prepare for an attack from the chainsaw man and other villagers. The shotgun will be upstairs, ready for the taking, which will be super helpful during this sequence.
- The circle on the southern end is a barn that has a lantern. Players can lure villagers into the barn and then shoot the lantern to light the place on fire, causing quite a commotion. If the cow ends up on fire, it'll begin to run around, causing villagers it runs into to burst into flames, too.
- Instead of wasting handgun ammo shooting the villagers on their bodies or arms, try shooting them in the legs so they can get knocked over. Once they're kneeling, players can use a melee attack on them, which, when performed, can even knock over nearby enemies.
- Explore the Resident Evil 4 village and its shacks for extra ammo, healing herbs, and other items.
- Make sure to only use grenades on large crowds.
- Craft healing items when possible using the crafting menu.
Once a few minutes have passed, the villagers will mysteriously stop attacking Leon and enter the church. Leon can now explore the area without dealing with a bunch of monsters.
