The Resident Evil 4 remake is Capcom's latest attempt to makeover its horror catalog. Not only does this remake of the iconic early 2000s shooter look glorious in the RE Engine, but Capcom has trimmed the fat a little to provide an even more straightforward adventure with Leon and Ashley. For those new to the Resident Evil series or just looking for some help before playing this remake, this guide will provide info on the four difficulty options the Resident Evil 4 remake offers players.

Resident Evil 4 Remake's Difficulty Settings

Upon booting up a new save file for the Resident Evil 4 remake, players will be asked to choose between three difficulty options: Assisted, Standard, and Hardcore. We mentioned earlier that there are four difficulty options for this game, and that's because the last one, and the hardest, is only unlocked after beating the game once.

Can You Change the Difficulty in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

The difficulty cannot be changed in the Resident Evil 4 remake, at least when it comes to making the game harder. The only way to change the difficulty is if players choose 'Standard' initially. Once they die and get the game over screen, they'll have the option to make the game easier by switching it to the Assisted mode.

It's also worth noting that there are several trophies and achievements tied to beating Resident Evil 4 on certain difficulties. For example, the Peerless Agent trophy requires players to complete the main game on Professional Mode difficulty. There are also really difficult trophies like the Frugalist and Minimalist ones, which require players to beat the game without using a recovery item and only using knives and handguns, respectively.

Resident Evil 4 Remake launches March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
