Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake is one of the most anticipated titles coming out in 2023. Despite being originally announced at the June Sony State of Play showcase, very little gameplay footage of the Resident Evil 4 Remake has been revealed. Earlier this month, Resident Evil developer Capcom did a presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, but save for revealing that Resident Evil 4 Remake is coming to the PS4, not much else was shared regarding the forthcoming game.

Instead, Capcom used the event to delve deeper into the upcoming Resident Evil Village DLC, reveal that four of the most recent Resident Evil games coming to the Switch via cloud technology, and shared updates regarding Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, and "more" would be revealed at their very own Resident Evil showcase which will happen at some point in October. The Tokyo Game Show presentation was brief and seemed like much more of an opening bid than a primetime spot, but there seems to be a method to the madness.

The Perfect Opportunity for an RE4 Demo

In a post-pandemic world where streaming is king and in-person gatherings are trickier to organize, it's not uncommon for studios to do their own showcases. It is unusual for a studio to use a showcase to announce a showcase, but there's reason to believe that Capcom is waiting to pull out the big guns. Even before the Nvidia leak revealed Resident Evil 4 Remake, among other games, the rumors had been swirling that the fourth entry would be the next to get the remake treatment. As the calendar inches closer to the game's March 2023 release date, it's safe to assume that Capcom is getting ready to present much more of it.

While few tidbits have been confirmed about the upcoming remake, trailers have already revealed changes to the game's overall tone, giving it a much darker and more foreboding vibe. There are still so many moments in Resident Evil 4 Remake that have yet to be revealed. The Resident Evil showcase would be the perfect time to show gamers actual gameplay footage and do a surprise drop of a playable demo. It would be a fantastic way to build hype and get valuable player feedback, and it wouldn't be the first time Capcom has done it either. The first Resident Evil 7 demo was made available approximately seven months before the game was released.

Other Resident Evil Appearances

Fans can also reasonably expect to see gameplay for the upcoming Shadows of Rose DLC for Resident Evil Village. Fans are eager to see if Rose's DLC offers clues for what to expect from the Resident Evil 4 Remake regarding gameplay dynamics, if not more comparisons. Lastly, there was Capcom's cryptic hint of "more" to be shown at the upcoming Resident Evil showcase. It could be something like the long-rumored Resident Evil: Outrage for the Switch.

If there's one thing that's true about Resident Evil, it's that anything is possible. It's a dynamic franchise, and Capcom is eager to give players more of it. Ultimately, it's their choice to reveal new details about upcoming games. Still, it's safe to expect them to show the first proper gameplay footage of the Resident Evil 4 remake and give us more than a couple of minutes of "Shadows of Rose" gameplay. With luck, a playable demo drop will be the cherry on top of a delicious presentation.

Resident Evil 4 releases on March 24th, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
