Resident Evil 4 remake voice actor Lily Gao has deleted Instagram posts after being flooded with negative comments from angry fans. The Resident Evil 4 remake is faithful to the 2005 original in many ways, but it also features some significant departures. One of the big differences between this new version of Resident Evil 4 and the original game is its cast, with basically every role recast for the 2023 version.

Major characters Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong both have different actors doing their performance capture and voice work, with Wong played by Lily Gao this time around. Gao is primarily known for her television work, but she's no stranger to the world of Resident Evil. In fact, Gao played a live action version of Ada Wong in the 2021 film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City prior to voicing the character in the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Gao's performance as Ada Wong in the Resident Evil 4 remake has received some criticism, with some fans unhappy with her portrayal. While many have placed the blame more on whoever was directing Gao's performance than Gao herself, others have decided to harass the actress on social media. The wave of harassment was intense enough that Gao deleted most of her Instagram posts, which were flooded with negative comments from disgruntled Resident Evil fans.

Gao taking on the role of Ada Wong in the Resident Evil 4 remake has been a source of controversy long before the game even came out. Fans were initially upset when they discovered Resident Evil 2 remake Ada voice actor Jolene Andersen wouldn't be returning to the role in the Resident Evil 4 remake. It seems this decision was born out of Capcom's desire to avoid hiring union workers for the Resident Evil 4 remake, and also to hire someone who is actually Chinese to play a Chinese-American character. Regardless, even if one doesn't like Gao's performance as Ada Wong in the Resident Evil 4 remake, it is obviously not appropriate to harass her like this, and hopefully this behavior stops.

While unconfirmed, it's possible Gao will have the chance to play the role of Ada in future Resident Evil projects. Leaks have suggested that the Resident Evil 4 remake may be adding Separate Ways, a bonus campaign starring Ada Wong, and one would imagine Gao would be back to play the character again. However, Capcom hasn't actually confirmed if Separate Ways is coming to the Resident Evil 4 remake or not, so fans should keep their expectations in check.

Resident Evil 4 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
