Since the original Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005, Capcom's long-standing survival horror franchise has ditched the fixed camera angle that was synonymous with the early entries, but someone goes for that slice of nostalgia with the recent remake demo. As far as the series goes in general, Resident Evil is in the best shape it's been in years. As well as remakes, there have been new installments which have breathed life into the RE brand, right at the point when it was starting to lose its identity.

True that the modern games have done away with a lot of tropes associated with classic Resident Evil, such as the B-movie dialog and door opening animations in place of loading screens, but the series is still flying high, having rebranded itself for contemporary audiences. One other thing that's also been given the boot is the old school fixed camera angle, but someone decided that this needed to make a comeback.

As spotted by DSO Gaming, a YouTube channel called TheResidentofEvil has uploaded play footage from the recent demo of Resident Evil 4. However, rather than utilizing the over-the-shoulder look associated with the original RE4, as well as the remakes of RE2 and RE3, it goes back to basics by implementing the old camera perspective. This gives the modern horror game a classic look. However, it should be noted that this is just for a bit of nostalgia and doesn't appear to represent a mod that will allow players to switch to this iconic viewpoint.

It's a bit of a shame, as there will no doubt be many who would love to play a modern RE game with a retro feel. There are already modders who have been tinkering with the recent demo, including replacing Resident Evil 4's Chainsaw Man with an expressionless Shrek. Having the ability to switch the camera perspective to something from days of yore would be a hit for a lot of older fans. However, unless Capcom adds in such a feature, it will be left up to the modding community to make it happen.

People have already imagined what modern Resident Evil games would look if demade, giving them a novelty PS1 aesthetic as a real nod to the franchise's roots. However, Capcom in general is interested in looking forward, and plenty of people have become used to the contemporary over-the-shoulder and first-person looks anyway, so that's not likely to change any time soon.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is set to release on March 24, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
