The Resident Evil 3 remake pleases most fans with its reimagining of Jill Valentine's adventure through the zombie-infested Raccoon City. Unfortunately, the survival horror game is a little on the short side, with a single playthrough coming in at around six hours. Fortunately, a multiplayer mode, Resistance, comes packed in with the title.

The four versus one setup tasks one team with escaping an Umbrella testing facility while one player does all in their power behind the scenes to stop them, looking in on the action with security cameras. The unique mode has a lot going on, and can be hard to grasp at first, but hopefully the 10 tips listed below can at least give players some direction.

10 Practice Mode

The game is generous enough to offer a practice mode. In it, players can choose any map and set their own parameters. This way, one can take all the time they need to acclimate themselves to the maps and learn all of their secrets. Familiarity with the layouts is key to victory, so be sure to know the ins and outs of each environment before jumping into a real match.

9 Do The Tutorials

One of the first things the game throws at the player is a tutorial. These are optional, but come highly recommended. This game is unlike other multiplayer modes, with the closest comparisons coming from titles like Friday the 13thDead by Daylight, and the upcoming Predator: Hunting Grounds, so learning the ropes is essential, especially as the mastermind trying to halt the survivors. Without doing the tutorials, the first several rounds will be fraught with loss and confusion while trying to understand all the mechanics in the midst of a match.

8 How To Deal With William Birkin And Mr. X

The mastermind is eventually able to unleash a super powerful monster upon the survivors. Depending on who the mastermind is determines what monster attacks the other players.

While William Birkin and Mr. X only last about a minute, they can cause some serious damage to a team if the survivors are careless. It is best to keep one's distance from these beasts, and shoot them in the face if they grab another survivor.

7 Know Each Survivor

One's choice of survivor is not just based on looks; each has their own unique abilities they can use to increase the odds of survival. Some are support roles, like disabling cameras in a room or healing other players, while others are offensive abilities designed to make dispatching zombies easier. Knowing which one fits a player's particular style is key to gaining the upper hand over the mastermind.

6 Use Melee Weapons

New to the series in this mode is an increased focus on melee weaponry. Because ammunition is such a valuable commodity, one should use melee weapons as much as possible in the beginning when it is safer and less stressful.

Those valuable bullets will become more useful later in the round, and one will be thankful they saved up so many of them.

5 Stick Together

Remember how the worst decision in any horror movie is when the heroes decide the split up? The same goes for Resident Evil: Resistance. When traveling as a group, everybody can watch each other's backs. Apart, the mastermind can take the whole group out one at a time. A lone wolf won't even stand a chance against Mr. X by themselves. Stick together while fleeing to increase the odds of victory.

4 Stock Up

RE Resistance

The shop is there, so use it to the best of your advantage. The first couple of areas are quite easy, so it may seem like the survivors can get by with what they have, but the last area really brings the pain as the mastermind throws everything they have at the players. Be frugal at first, but go all out during the ending, because the opponent won't be holding back.

3 Play With Friends

Resident Evil: Outbreak on the PlayStation 2 had no voice communication. It was a design choice and added to the tension and necessity to communicate through the in-game actions.

In Resistance, it is most recommended to play with friends and chat with them through the party feature on the respective platform. Being able to coordinate together more directly gives the survivors a significant advantage over the mastermind.

2 As A Mastermind, Corner The Survivors

Playing as the mastermind offers its own unique strategies. Laying down traps willy-nilly gets the player nowhere. Instead, it is best to tactfully set up traps and enclose players in small spaces. If you can manage to split up the survivors, then it is easier to take them out one by one. Using too many carelessly depletes resources, leaving the mastermind with nothing when they are needed most.

1 Know Which Mastermind Is Right For You

Alex Wesker

The player only chooses from one mastermind at first, but unlocks more as they progress. Each of them has a different ability or monster they can unleash upon survivors. Apart from the default character who unleashed Mr. X, Annette Birkin has William Birkin, Alex Wesker has a plant monster, while Oswell Spencer lays down a trap in the map which deals massive damage to those who cross it. Understanding each of these and knowing how to use them is the difference between glorious victory and embarrassing defeat.
