Although Resident Evil 3 Remake has been rumored for a while now, it was only recently that the game’s existence started to become real. Cover art for the upcoming remake leaked online that featured close looks at the designs for the game’s main characters and main protagonist Nemesis.

Given the timing of the leak, many Resident Evil fans assumed that it meant the game would be revealed at The Game Awards next week. However, Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley quickly squashed that speculation by saying that Resident Evil 3 Remake would not be part of the program. Now, a new candidate has emerged for the reveal.

According to a reliable leaker, the upcoming Sony State of Play stream will put a heavy focus on Resident Evil 3 Remake. Without question, fans should get another look at the cover art that leaked but the hope is that the presentation will also include gameplay. Much like Resident Evil 2 Remake adapted the original to fit a modern playstyle and look, it will be interesting to see how Resident Evil 3 has evolved.

Thus far, Sony’s State of Play streams have been a mixed bag. When the company first announced the video series, many assumed that it would rival Nintendo’s Direct presentation in terms of the magnitude of reveals and the details revealed. However, outside of confirmation of The Last of Us Part 2’s release date (which was delayed a month later), the videos have been fairly lackluster.

That being said, if Sony can give Resident Evil 3 Remake the time it deserves then that could turn the series around. Moreover, if Resident Evil 3 Remake is only part of the presentation, the hope would be that the other games revealed would be on a similar level. If all that fans are shown is a trailer then that would likely be disappointing.

Whether or not Capcom also decides to confirm a release date for Resident Evil 3 Remake is unclear. There have been rumors about when the game could hit, but they have varied significantly. Perhaps the strongest of the rumors suggests that Resident Evil 3 Remake will release in the fall of 2020.

Resident Evil 3 Remake has no current release date.
