After a slew of endless rumors and speculations, Capcom finally confirmed the highly-anticipated remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. As predicted by many, the game was officially unveiled at Sony's final State of Play, which aired earlier today. Apart from confirming the game's existence, Capcom also revealed Resident Evil 3 remake's first-ever trailer, which brings players back to the harrowing escape of series veteran Jill Valentine from the zombie-infested Raccoon City.

The first trailer for Resident Evil 3 remake ran for about three minutes long. However, the preview was enough to show players the overall feel of the game, which appears to be more terrifying than ever. The trailer opens with a few scenes from this year's highly-successful remake of Resident Evil 2 before transitioning to a timer that ran backward, signifying the first part of Resident Evil 3 that took place before the events of Resident Evil 2.

Players were then shown series veteran Jill Valentine running for her life from a concealed threat. Of course, players would soon find out that Jill was being pursued by no other than Nemesis, setting the tone of the traumatizing experience that players can expect once the Resident Evil 3 releases. Apart from Jill, several other supporting characters from the original game were revealed such as Carlos Olivieria, Nikolai Zinoviev, Mikhail Viktor, Brad Vickers, and a few other unnamed UBCS soldiers.

The trailer then showed Jill looking at her reflection and jump cuts of her seeing herself as a zombie. Of course, players who have played the original game would know why this is happening, but for the benefit of those who haven't played it, we won't reveal why for spoiler reasons. The preview ended in what appears to be one of Umbrella's facilities where scientists are seen to be in the process of activating Nemesis, which strikes a resemblance to how the monster was first unveiled in the movie adaptation inspired by the game, Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

Character Designs

The latest trailer for Resident Evil 3 confirmed the character design of Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveria, which was previously leaked last week. As expected, Jill's default outfit was redesigned to be more combat-friendly, similar to Capcom's approach with Claire Redfield outfit in Resident Evil 2 remake. The preview revealed that Capcom ditched Jill's tube top, mini-skirt, and knee-high boots, for a tank top and jeans.

While Jill's original outfit has since become iconic, the redesign was an understandable and necessary move, given that a trained police officer who has previous experience in combating bioweapons, wouldn't want to show that much skin as she attempts to escape a city swarmed with monsters. Carlos' outfit was also slightly changed and he now has a shirt under his tactical vest.

However, the most controversial character design in the remake goes to the game's iconic villain, Nemesis. When photos of Resident Evil 3 remake first surfaced online, many fans were quick to poke fun at the latest version of Nemesis. Many people commented on how the monster's nose, which was not present in the original game, made Nemesis' design terrible.

Several players hoped that the unveiling of the game's first trailer would show a better design. However, the preview barely showed Nemesis to see if any changes were made, except at the end, when the footage showed an extremely close up shot of half of the monster's face. Although the controversial nose is seen, Capcom did not fully show what Nemesis would look like in the game, which begs the question of whether the developer is still in the process of redesigning the monster as a response to initial feedback.
