New previews for Resident Evil 3 remake are starting to hit the web, and with them a number of fresh details about the upcoming survival-horror game. Thanks to these previews, fans are getting some answers for some lingering questions about the Resident Evil 3 remake, like why the development team decided to remove the live choices feature that was seen in the original PS1 release of Resident Evil 3.

Speaking to IGN, Capcom producer Peter Fabiano explained that in the original Resident Evil 3, live choices were added to give the game more replay value. As some may recall, the development time on the original Resident Evil 3 was unusually short, and so the game itself was not quite as long as other Resident Evil games. Live choices gave Resident Evil 3 players an excuse to replay the game to see all the different story variations.

However, with the Resident Evil 3 remake, the constrained development time isn't a factor. So this combined with the fact that the Resident Evil 3 remake director wants to "tell a consistent story" has led to live choices being removed in favor of a more linear narrative. This way everyone that plays the Resident Evil 3 remake will be experiencing the same story.

Instead of adding replay value through the live choices mechanic that was in the original Resident Evil 3, the Resident Evil 3 remake will be exploring other ways to give players' their money's worth. For example, the developers are expanding the story and characters, offering more character development for everyone from main protagonist Jill Valentine to minor Resident Evil 3 characters. It remains to be seen how extensively Capcom has expanded the Resident Evil 3 story in the remake, but it should go a long way in making the game last a little longer than it would have otherwise.

Another way that the Resident Evil 3 remake is adding replay value is through its online multiplayer component. The Resident Evil 3 remake is launching with a multiplayer mode called Resident Evil Resistance, which is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience. Fan reaction to Resident Evil Resistance has been mixed so far, but at the very least, it should give fans of the survival-horror franchise something more to do once they've wrapped up the Resident Evil 3 remake story.

With the Resident Evil 3 remake release date right around the corner, fans don't have to wait much longer to find out if the changes Capcom has made to the game are for the better or not.

Resident Evil 3 is launching on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
