It seems safe to say that the anticipation for the Resident Evil 3 Remake is at an all-time high. Not too long ago, cover art for the RE3 Remake leaked online, showing what fans of the franchise could expect from Jill Valentine, Carlos Oliveira, and Nemesis. This has also led to the increasing popular belief that the reveal will come soon, with the most popular location for the announcement being The Game Awards. However, host Geoff Keighley has stated that this is not the case.
While The Game Awards will be announcing roughly 10 games during its ceremony, Resident Evil 3 Remake will not be one of them. The silver lining here is that fans of the franchise shouldn't expect to see it there and be disappointed as a result, but that does severely limit the likelihood of an announcement anytime soon. There are a few possibilities and the aforementioned leaks seemingly guarantee it, but that's hard to say for sure without any official word from Capcom.
Beyond the possibility of it happening at the Game Awards, there have been some other teases. One such tease suggests that Capcom's Resident Evil 3 Remake reveal could be happening sooner than anyone expects, likely casting that time period anytime between now and the Game Awards. Another suggests that it will occur at Jump Festa, a Japanese event taking place on December 21-22, which would put it after the Game Awards.
It's worth mentioning that its predecessor, the remake of Resident Evil 2, was announced at E3 2018. For a big announcement like this, it makes sense to do it somewhere with a lot of fanfare and attention, yet if it's not happening at the Game Awards, it's hard to say where it could occur. A random announcement and Jump Festa are possibilities, but they don't seem the likeliest. For now, only Capcom really know what's happening.
There is a third option, though. The aforementioned leaks would suggest that it is happening sooner rather than later, and it's possible that Keighley is just trying to put the Resident Evil 3 Remake attention elsewhere to give it some of its element of surprise back. Hopefully, it is revealed soon, as after everything that has happened lately, it would be even more disappointing if it didn't happen at all.
Resident Evil 3 Remake is rumored to be in development.
