Thanks to modder Darkness Valtier, players are able to go through Resident Evil 3 Remake using many of their favorite The Last of Us 2 characters. By swapping the characters in for others, the modder gives The Last of Us 2's cast new life by putting them into Resident Evil 3, a new kind of apocalypse.
The modding community is well known for changing games in unique ways. Nexus Mods hosts over 290,000 mods for nearly 1,200 different games, as of this writing. Popular games like Skyrim have multitudes of mods that range from additional assets and storylines to quality of life updates and anything in between. Resident Evil 3 itself has at least 284 different mods on Nexus Mods. Whether players want to see Nemesis as Santa Clause or just want to change a character's clothes, there are mod options out there for them.
For fans of The Last of Us 2, this mod makes the list of must-play mods for Resident Evil 3. It swaps in The Last of Us 2 characters in fairly natural places in the story: Ellie takes over for Jill Valentine, Joel is Carlos, Tyrell Patrick is Tommy, Victor is Jesse, Nicholai is Abby, and Nemesis is changed into a huge Bloater. The quality of the swaps is pretty good too, with the facial expressions matching up well.
Some fans of The Last of Us 2 who tried the mod say they loved the way the characters played out their new roles. Comments under the video said this was the "true ending they wanted to see" in The Last of Us 2, and that "Abby got what was coming to her." Regardless of the player's opinions of The Last of Us 2, its characters now get to play out new roles and stories thanks to this mod in the remastered version of Resident Evil 3.
