Despite various rumors that Capcom would announce a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake at E3 2019, it turned out to be one of the 12 big missing games from E3. The absence thereof has been felt by many fans of the horror franchise, but the Resident Evil 3 Seamless High Def Project (abbreviated as RE3SHDP) has been working on improving the original game.

Improvements include, but are not limited to, upscaled backgrounds with vectorized masks, restored integrated texts, upscaled 3D model textures, manually edited in-game screens, improved visual effects, and upscaled menu elements (with the latter having the exception of the inventory which proved to be impossible). Of course, despite all of this, it doesn't live up to the quality of the Resident Evil 2 remake, but this is likely as close as fans of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are going to get for the time being.

To install the RE3SHDP mod, visit the main project page here. Resident Evil 3 fans will then need to download the file, which comes with a custom version of Dolphin, a popular Gamecube emulator. Once the download is complete, extract the Zip file, open Dolphin.exe, select the folder with the game ISO, configure the controller, and then play this upgraded version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

However, it is worth highlighting that this mod does not come with the ISO, meaning players will need to rip a Gamecube version to legitimately play. This is likely to be unfortunate for many who do not have the ISO, but it is understandable on the part of RE3SHDP.

That caveat aside, it is a major step-up that will live players wanting a true Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake, and while an announcement at E3 2019 did not occur, that does not mean all hope is lost. It could just be that Capcom is taking the extra time for its next remake to live up to the expectations of its last, and it's even worth mentioning that there's another mod that adds Jill Valentine and Nemesis to Resident Evil 2 in an effort to show how a remake of Resident Evil 3 could look.

The Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
