The Resident Evil 3 remake has generally been received as a success, providing a new coat of polish to the story of Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveria fighting to escape zombie-infested Raccoon City. Fans were quick to take notice that Resident Evil 3's remake is considerably shorter than RE 2's, which has led some to wonder if DLC might be in the pipeline for the survival horror title. According to a well-known leaker, however, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Resident Evil 3 launched alongside Resident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer survival game that pits survivors against a mastermind taking control of classic Resident Evil monsters and creatures like Mr. X. It's unclear if Resistance is taking the focus away from Resident Evil 3, but future updates have already been promised for the multiplayer title.

Leaker AestheticGamer (aka Dusk Golem) revealed in a Tweet that he believes that Resident Evil 3 is unlikely to receive any DLC. His logic is that as far as he knows, development on the game wrapped up some time ago, and the team has since moved on to other projects, which distinctly makes it sound as though the game won't receive any sort of expansion. Resident Evil 2 saw DLC in the form of the Ghost Survivors, which told the (non-canon) tales of survival of side characters from the main campaign, like Kendo, Raccoon City's gunsmith.

Although fans should take the rumor with a grain of salt, the door may have already closed on the future of RE 3 DLC. However, fans will at least have a chance to play as Jill again. She'll be joining the roster of survivors in Resident Evil Resistance in the just a few days. Though nothing has yet been said of Carlos, a male silhouette has been teased as a playable character coming in the May that could potentially be him.

Capcom noted early on that Resident Evil 3 would be shorter than 2, which was part of the reason why the developer included Resistance in the first place. However, Resident Evil 3 remake also has significant differences from the original title that fans were likely hoping to see rectified with additional DLC storylines. At the same time, though, Resident Evil 3 introduces fewer new characters and wraps up most of their stories within the game, so there's less material for Capcom to follow up on.

While Resident Evil fans might not have more to look forward to from Nemesis' saga, there's rumored to be more RE games on the horizon, including Resident Evil 8, which will allegedly continue the story of RE 7 protagonist Ethan.

Resident Evil 3 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
