The Resident Evil franchise often includes a post-credits scene to cap off the game. Sometimes it is a lighthearted moment, like Hunnigan and Leon's chat at the end of Resident Evil 4, but more often than not the series offers up a stinger to give the player one more question to ponder at the end. The Resident Evil 3 Remake goes for the latter, providing a little tease at potential future narratives.

Resident Evil 3 has long been a divisive entry in the franchise—a reputation it retains even in its remade form—with its focus on action, shorter length, and simply not being Resident Evil 2. It's still a fun outing in the series, but the criticism is valid.

For players who stick around after the credits of the RE3 Remake, a short scene plays where an unidentified character picks up the broken vial that once contained the vaccine for the T-virus. That vial was destroyed at the end of the game proper by Nicholai, with Jill cursing out the crooked mercenary for the egregious act. The post-credits scene is new material in the remake, and while fans may lament some of the changes to the game, this one is drawing interest from fans.

The scene is light on detail, but here is where fans pick up the story and begin to theorize just what this stinger actually implies. A Reddit thread sprouted up immediately following the game's release, after players had a chance to work their way through the game. With DLC for the RE3 Remake unlikely, answers may not come any time soon, so fans are doing their part to fill in the narrative.

The Reddit thread offers up a few different theories on who this character might be, some think this may be Resident Evil 0 protagonist Rebecca Chambers due to the color of the character's shirt. Rebecca is traditionally seen wearing green, versus Jill in blue, and Claire in red, so if Capcom is sticking to these "assigned" colors, Rebecca makes sense as the mystery character.

That may also tease a potential Resident Evil 0 remake, as Capcom has been polling gamers on how they feel regarding future remakes. The other character thought to be the mystery person is the most obvious one, Jill herself. At the end of the game Jill tells Nicholai she is willing to do a little detective work to find out who his boss is, so holding onto the broken vial as a piece of evidence would be sensible for Jill.

With so little to go on, any theory is as good as the next, so fans may just have to wait and see to find out just how this ties into Resident Evil lore. The rumor mill's attention is already shifting to Resident Evil 8, but with no confirmed details on the game, it's hard to tell exactly what the scene means.

The Resident Evil 3 Remake is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
