Fan-made project Resident Evil Revisited has released its first trailer showing thrilling gameplay and laying the foundation for a terrifying new story. In it, players see a new protagonist venture through familiar locations like the Spencer Estate in addition to new locales in the Resident Evil universe.

Resident Evil Revisited was unveiled on December 5, 2021, on the project's Twitter page. The trailer itself shows off a new game done in the style of the PlayStation era games. In it, a "new" character by the name of Trent is seen heading to the Arklay Mountains before a fateful automobile accident sends him down a path of survival horror.

Viewers with a keen eye may recognize Trent. Although it isn't explicitly stated, it is likely that this Trent is the same character from the novels by S.D. Perry. In them, Trent is a high-level employee in the Umbrella organization keen on taking it down. Over the course of the novels based on the games, and the novels with original stories, Trent will often reach out to the protagonist and provide them with valuable information to aid them on their upcoming journey. It is unlikely that the developers of Resident Evil Revisited chose this name without knowing the larger implications of it.

In the trailer, Trent is shown driving through the forest of the Arklay Mountains before crashing his car in order to avoid hitting a zombie shambling across the road. Trent then views a document saying "-If the site is contaminated, retrieve any assests that are not compromised or infected. Good luck with your mission. [sic]" The remainder of the trailer shows many quick cuts with shots of the additional areas added in the Resident Evil Remake in addition to new areas like a motel. In a fun nod to Final Fantasy 8, Trent finds an issue of Timber Maniacs while exploring.

For a fan project, Resident Evil Revisited looks extremely impressive. It captures the spirit of the PlayStation era of games while feeling like something new. The voice acting is a little rough but is perfectly in line with the original trilogy, thus making it more accurate than if it were done to today's standards. The graphics, movement, and inventory management all hearken back to an era many would have thought lost but is returning thanks to projects like this and the Bloodborne PlayStation demake. For fans of classic Resident Evil, this original title is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Resident Evil Revisited doesn't have a release date at this time.
