A few years ago, Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 2 remake was in development. Since that initial announcement, Capcom has been silent about the project, but at Sony's E3 2018 press conference, we got an extensive look at the game through an impressive story trailer that also confirmed its release date.

As confirmed by the game's E3 2018 trailer, the Resident Evil 2 remake will launch on January 25, 2019. The trailer confirms that the remake will stay true to many of the story beats seen in the original Resident Evil 2, with Leon S. Kennedy working in Raccoon City as a rookie cop. Players will visit familiar locations, including the Raccoon City Police Department, the destroyed streets of Raccoon City itself, the city's sewers, and Umbrella's secret underground laboratory.

The trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake reveals some other details about the upcoming game. While it doesn't have anything in the way of actual gameplay, it does confirm some things about the story, including which characters will return. For example, the trailer confirms that Leon S. Kennedy is making a comeback, as expected, as is Claire Redfield. It also appears that Sherry Birkin will be in the game as well, though she seems to be portrayed as even younger than she was in the original release.

Besides characters, the Resident Evil 2 trailer offers some glimpses at what kind of enemies players will be facing off against in the remake. It looks like Leon and Claire will once again be trying to survive against zombies, the horrifying Licker creatures, and the formidable Mr. X. We also get a blink-and-you'll-miss-it look at what appears to be a fully mutated William Birkin at the very end of the trailer.

Based on the trailer, it seems as though the Resident Evil 2 remake is looking to please fans of the original release, while updating the experience for modern consoles. It will be interesting to see how well it all turns out once the game launches early next year.

The Resident Evil 2 remake will launch on January 25, 2019 for PS4 and other, unspecified platforms.
