Capcom revealed the Resident Evil 2 Remake sales figures, confirming that the remake of the horror game has sold better than the original release. The company had said that the "favorable" growth of the game's sales were down to Resident Evil 2 Remake reviews which were incredibly positive.

In a press release sent out today, Capcom confirmed that the Resident Evil 2 Remake has sold more than five million copies as of December 4, 2019. In February 2019, Capcom had said that the game had "shipped" four million copies around the world, which is both sales to players and the number of copies on store shelves. This means that the game has sold around two million more copies in the last nine months.

It also means that the Resident Evil 2 Remake has sold more copies than the original version of Resident Evil 2. The "Platinum Titles" page on Capcom's site says that the original Resident Evil 2 sold 4.94 million copies on PlayStation. When it was released in 1998, the game also became the best-selling game in North America at the time. The combined sales of the Resident Evil 2 Remake and the original Resident Evil 2 also makes it the best-selling game in the Resident Evil series, totalling 10 million sales which eclipses the 7.5 million copies sold by Resident Evil 5.

Few may be surprised by the performance of the game. There was a small amount of concern from fans when it was revealed that a major character was nearly changed for the remake, but this soon went away when the developers confirmed that the character would be in the game. The gameplay was entertaining and the graphics were high quality and it also offered free DLC, Tofu Mode, and replayability. Most of what fans asked for from the remake was in the game, which will have helped it to sell so well.

The strong sales of the Resident Evil 2 Remake may be why Capcom is also releasing the Resident Evil 3 Remake next year. There are suggestions that the game will offer a larger look at how Raccoon City fell apart, which is something that the original version didn't offer. This could make those who played the original buy this too, potentially helping it to beat its sales. There's also the Resident Evil Resistance multiplayer mode which will allow four players to fight against one and this could also help it sell much more.
