We've known that the Resident Evil 2 remake has been in development for a few years now, but fans had no idea what direction the game was taking until Sony unveiled it at E3 2018. Now, thanks to both the initial Resident Evil 2 remake trailer shown at Sony's E3 press conference and a gameplay trailer that was uploaded later, we know at least one major change coming to the game.

In the Resident Evil 2 remake, players will have an over-the-shoulder camera like Resident Evil 4, as opposed to the fixed camera angles seen in the original game. This may disappointment some fans who were hoping that the game would be similar to the remake of the first Resident Evil game, which kept the fixed camera angles, but offered new gameplay and significantly improved visuals. However, others may approve of the new direction, as it offers a fresh way to experience the classic horror game.

The switch to an over-the-shoulder camera is a big change for sure, but otherwise it looks like the Resident Evil 2 remake is retaining many of the elements that made the original game a survival-horror classic. It looks as though players will find themselves once again facing off against hordes of zombies in the streets of Raccoon City, while also contending with the likes of Lickers, Tyrants, and other monstrosities.

Players will also be visiting some familiar locations in their return trip to Raccoon City. The E3 2018 trailer shown during Sony's press conference confirmed that players will roam the haunted halls of the Raccoon City police department, as well as explore the secret Umbrella laboratory located underneath the city.

Resident Evil 2 remake players will also find themselves interacting with a cast of familiar faces, with the trailer confirming the return of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as well as the mysterious Ada Wong and the ill-fated RPD officer Marvin Branagh.

So far, it looks as though the Resident Evil 2 remake is going to be faithful to the original game while also delivering something new for fans to sink their teeth into. We should learn even more about what it has in store as we near its release date early next year.

The Resident Evil 2 remake will launch on January 25, 2019 for PS4.
