There's no doubt that Capcom's survival horror franchise Resident Evil has its fair share of fearsome creatures, but many players might argue that Resident Evil 2 is home to some of the series' more inspired and terrifying monsters. So, in order to jog fans' memories and promote the upcoming RE2 remake in the process, the publisher and developer has now shared a still of one of game's most iconic and familiar foes.

As seen in the image below, the Resident Evil 2 remake teases the comeback of the Licker as a "very familiar terror" that will return in the project, and it will be sporting a much more high definition look than before. The original design of the creature remains intact, but Capcom has enhanced the lighting, textures, and shadows displaying the monster in a much more realistic way, so that it still should strike fear in the hearts of veteran fans and shock newcomers alike.

For those unaware, Capcom has previously stated that the Resident Evil 2 remake will contain changes and re-designs of certain elements from the original, but the majority of the title will still contain many classic moments from the first RE2 that fans will be able to relive all over again. With this being the case, the reveal of the aforementioned Licker monster shouldn't be all too surprising, but players looking forward to the game can at least appreciate how well-crafted the creature is.

While the Licker's reveal should be exciting to players, some had been holding out hope that Capcom would also populate the Resident Evil 2 remake's enemy pool with fresh blood, but that doesn't seem to be the case. About a month ago, game director Kazunori Kadoi confirmed that the title will not have any new enemies, so at least it's good to know that the publisher and developer is putting a significant effort into making the monsters from the 1998 survival-horror classic so refreshingly frightening.

Resident Evil 2 is scheduled to release on January 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
