Last month, a leak on the Xbox Store revealed that the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake would get a demo in early January. Now Capcom has officially announced the demo for the Resident Evil 2 remake, revealing that it will launch on January 11th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will not be an Xbox-exclusive as previously believed.

While Resident Evil 2 fans on PC and PS4 are likely excited to learn that the demo won't be an Xbox One exclusive, there's still a catch. It's been confirmed that the Resident Evil 2 remake demo will be a 30 minute "one shot" demo, meaning players can only play through it one time before being locked out.

Players will have a total of 30 minutes to explore the Raccoon City Police Department as Leon S. Kennedy, playing through gameplay sections similar to the ones that Capcom showed off to attendees at E3 2018. Fans can keep playing the demo regardless of how many times they die or beat its story, but once the 30 minutes are up, they're done. Of course, alternate accounts could probably be made to replay the demo if one so desires, but that has yet to be clarified.

Once players complete the Resident Evil 2 remake demo, they will be treated to an exclusive new trailer for the upcoming survival-horror game. This trailer will unlock for everyone that plays through the Resident Evil 2 demo's 30-minute time limit, regardless of if they actually complete the mission objective or not.

The Resident Evil franchise has a long history of using playable demos to hype upcoming releases. For example, Capcom released a Beginning Hour teaser for Resident Evil 7 in the months leading up to that game's release that functionally served as a prologue to the actual game, featuring gameplay and puzzles that weren't in the final product. We don't know if this Resident Evil 2 snippet is literally just a slice of the final game or if parts of it are strictly for the demo like we saw with Resident Evil 7, but it seems likely fans will relive the demo in the final product.

After an overwhelmingly positive reception to Resident Evil 2's E3 2018 gameplay demos, it will be interesting to see what fans think of the 30 minute, 1-shot demo when it launches on January 11 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
