The Resident Evil 2 Remake was primarily heralded as a success by gamers and critics alike, but it's been a while since anything new has happened surrounding the game. In the months since the release of the DLC Ghost Survivors, all went quiet and it appeared that Capcom was done with the title. However, that may no longer be the case.

Fans paying close attention to Resident Evil 2 on multiple platforms have noticed an odd recent addition that may indicate that something new - possibly DLC - could be on its way for the game.

Gamers have discovered that following a recent update to the game, a new, incomplete achievement has appeared. It's present across all current platforms that the game is operating on, including PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The achievement appears to be a placeholder, which is merely leading to fans feeling more mystified and curious as to what it could be.

The achievement has been uncovered in the files, but can't actually be unlocked by natural means at this time. It's simply titled "EN_Name," and contains a placeholder image. The achievement itself doesn't provide much information or context on what it's for or what could be coming to the game, but it stands to reason that something could be underway for Resident Evil 2.

Of course, with the current dearth of information available, there's no way to be sure if Capcom has something up its sleeves for Resident Evil 2 or not. Even if there is some kind of new content coming to the game, it may not necessarily be a new story. For example, Resident Evil 6 received DLC in the form of a rehashed Mercenaries mode containing Left 4 Dead 2 characters. While this is surely not the case this time around, it's possible that an existing gameplay mode could be expanded upon that could make use of new achievements.

In the end, though, gamers have no way of knowing what Capcom may or may not be planning. Fans of the Resident Evil series and its remakes in particular will have to wait and see what Capcom's plans are and if a remake of Code Veronica is on the horizon.

Resident Evil 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
