Last week, Capcom hinted that Resident Evil 2 could get post-launch DLC, and today it revealed what that DLC would be. While future paid DLC may still be on the table, Resident Evil 2 fans can look forward to post-launch DLC that includes retro Leon and Claire, as well as a brand new game mode.

The new game mode is called Ghost Survivors, and sees players explore the story of three characters that are not Leon and Claire. The famous gun shop owner from Resident Evil 2, Kendo, is one of the characters, and he is joined by an Umbrella operative (not HUNK), and the daughter of Raccoon City mayor Michael Warren.

Specific details on the Ghost Survivors mode are scarce, though it will apparently feature "randomized scenarios," a shop to purchase items, and an enemy that will be exclusive to the mode. The latter bit of information may be the most interesting to Resident Evil 2 fans, as Capcom previously indicated that there would be no new enemies in Resident Evil 2. It appears as though the publisher is making an exception for DLC.

More details should come on Resident Evil 2's DLC after launch. Right now Capcom is focused on actually launching the game, which is the first big game release of 2019. It's already off to a pretty strong start, holding a 92 review average at the time of this writing.

It's likely that Resident Evil 2's strong reviews will translate into strong sales. And if Resident Evil 2 performs as well as many expect it to, then it's possible Capcom will get more serious about pursuing a Resident Evil 3 remake. Rumors point to a Resident Evil 3 remake already being well into development, but fans will just have to stay tuned to see if there's any truth to the rumors.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how else Capcom plans on supporting Resident Evil 2 after the game's launch this week.

Resident Evil 2 will launch on January 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
