Whether it's the stellar reviews or the fact that the game sold 3 million copies within its first week, the Resident Evil 2 remake has had quite the successful launch. One could argue that its prosperity has been due to Capcom's ability to maintain the tone of the original while re-contextualizing the gameplay for contemporary audiences with such features as enhanced graphics, new plot details, and an over-the-shoulder perspective. Speaking of the lattermost aspect, one fan decided to find out what the RE2 remake would be like if it retained the original's fixed camera angles instead.

Thanks to the work of the YouTuber and Resident Evil 2 remake fan known as Enveloping Sounds, players can get a look at co-protagonist Leon S. Kennedy's intro in the game with fixed camera points, as the rookie cop explores the Mizoil Gas Station. The footage runs all the way through Leon's encounter of a zombie devouring the neck of an officer from the sheriff's department and up until his first encounter with Claire Redfield.

As indicated by the mod concept's clip above, the fixed camera angles for the remake definitely work well in establishing the mood and tone of the original Resident Evil 2, but it appears as if the game would be much harder in that players' ability to aim properly would be somewhat diminished. After all, Capcom's redesigns for the remake intend for players to be aiming from a third-person perspective, and reverting to fixed camera angles would bring an added wrinkle of difficulty that could slow down the flow of the game.

All things considered, Capcom likely won't be bringing an official fixed camera angle mode into the Resident Evil 2 remake any time soon. Of course, there's always the chance for the publisher and developer to add such a feature later on down the line if the company decides there's enough of a demand for it, and that it would somehow fit in with the game's current mechanics. At any rate, with Capcom having all but confirmed an RE3 remake is on the way, perhaps the studio will decide to leave its fixed camera angles untouched and focus on changing other elements instead.

Resident Evil 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
