Capcom has been working on the Resident Evil 2 remake for years, but fans have yet to see anything concrete on the project. Anyone impatient to revisit the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City may want to check out Far Cry 5 to whet their appetite, as user ZergRex has used its Arcade mode map editor to remake the beginning area of Resident Evil 2.

ZergRex's Resident Evil 2 map in Far Cry 5, simply called Raccoon City, is a Journey map-type, meaning it's all about players reaching an exit. It starts off by giving players the choice between Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, who are equipped with a bow and a shotgun, respectively.

From the starting point, players can see the overturned, burning oil tanker that is also visible at the beginning of Resident Evil 2. They can then fight some "zombies" and travel through Raccoon City's eerie alleyways until they reach Kendo's Gun Shop. After spending some time with the ill-fated Kendo, players can then make their way to the Raccoon City Police Department, which is where the map ends.

This Far Cry 5 remake of Resident Evil 2 isn't the only recent fan creation that celebrates the survival-horror classic. For example, a Dying Light mod was released just a few weeks ago that allows players to explore the interior of the Raccoon City Police Department.

Some fans may be amused by the Far Cry 5 Resident Evil 2 map and the Dying Light mod, but others may be impatient for news on the actual Resident Evil 2 remake. As it stands, Capcom has shared virtually nothing about the game since its initial announcement, though rumors have suggested that it will use an over-the-shoulder camera like Resident Evil 4 instead of the static camera angles used in the original game.

However, Capcom has yet to confirm or deny any of the rumors surrounding the Resident Evil 2 remake. Hopefully projects like the one showcased here can tide fans over while they wait for more information.

Far Cry 5 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
