This past Friday, Capcom released its timed demo for Resident Evil 2 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, allowing fans a chance to test out the reimagining of the 1998 PlayStation survival-horror classic. With a finite amount of time to pick up the demo, which is only available until January 31st, and the close proximity of the full game's release, it's no wonder a large number of both long-time fans and newcomers have downloaded the demo over the weekend.

In a matter of days, the Resident Evil 2 One-Shot demo has already surpassed the one million downloads milestone. Capcom unveiled the number thanks to the RE NET tracking service. Given players have the option to opt out of RE NET at the beginning of the demo, the actual number of downloads is likely much greater than what current statistics show.

The demo for Resident Evil 2 puts players in the role of Leon S. Kennedy as he first enters the Racoon City Police Department. The playable demo reflects gameplay footage first shown during E3 last year and displays a revamped camera perspective and controller layout in an attempt to modernize the game more than two decades after its original release.

What's also worth noting is that, while there have been over one million confirmed downloads of Resident Evil 2's demo, the completion percentage among players is at a noticeably low 29%. Players are allowed to die as often as they'd like but they only have 30 minutes available. Since the demo is time sensitive, be sure to check out our guide on how to make the most of the thirty minutes. A brand new trailer for the game will unlock whether players have beaten the demo or run out of time, though one streamer had no issues breezing through the demo in a matter of minutes.
