One of the biggest surprises from E3 2018 was the reveal trailer for the long-awaited Resident Evil 2 remake. Since its reveal, Capcom has released a ton of information about the game, but has mostly focused on Leon S. Kennedy, with his co-protagonist Claire Redfield only seen briefly in trailers. Now Capcom has properly pulled the curtain back on Claire Redfield as she will appear in the remake by releasing a slew of new screenshots at Gamescom 2018.

The new Resident Evil 2 screenshots not only show off Claire's redesigned look, but they also reveal some of the weapons she will have access to over the course of her story. In the pictures, we can see Claire armed with a pistol, a shotgun, what could be a hunting rifle of some kind, and what appears to be a grenade launcher. Suffice to say, Claire's going to have quite the arsenal to help her fight off the undead hordes.

And Claire's going to need all the help she can get. A couple of the screenshots show her facing off against a mutated William Birkin, who is the main antagonist of Resident Evil 2. Depending on if the game features content from the Claire B scenario, she may have to fight the powerful tyrant Mr. X as well, so Claire may have her hands full in the remake.

Besides Claire Redfield and some monsters, the screenshots also highlight a couple of other characters that are going to be featured in the Resident Evil 2 remake as part of Claire's story. For example, we see Sherry Birkin, the daughter of William Birkin who is lost in Raccoon City and is rescued by Claire. We also see what appears to be Chief Ironside, the crooked Raccoon City police chief, as he holds Claire and Sherry at gunpoint.

These screenshots serve as our deepest look at Claire's story in Resident Evil 2 so far, but more should be on the way. After all, we have the Tokyo Game Show and The Game Awards still to come this year, and it seems likely that Capcom will feature the game at one of those events, if not both of them.

Resident Evil 2 launches January 25, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
