Resident Evil Celebrates 15th Anniversary with a New Trailer

Resident Evil 15th Anniversary

Who’s ready to feel old? Those who remember playing the first Resident Evil game when they were in high school, or any time around that age, can get ready for a swift kick in their geriatric, orthopedic-supporting pants.

This is because Capcom has just released the Resident Evil 15th Anniversary trailer.

That’s right, it may seem like only yesterday, but it was in fact fifteen years ago that gamers were exploring the creepy hallways of that old mansion, peeing their pants at the sight of vicious dogs and chuckling at the horrendously cheesy dialogue between the members of Alpha team. However, the trailer isn’t just about the past, as it showcases the continuing legacy of the franchise with some glimpses of the upcoming releases from the series that birthed the term “survival horror.” Some are new and some are familiar, but they are all unmistakably Resident Evil.

Turn out the lights and have a look:

Fans of the older entries, before the series took a sharp turn towards action horror rather than survival horror, should get pretty excited for the brief look at Resident Evil: Code Veronica - now that it’s wearing a slick new set of HD clothes. Also getting high def’ed is the last gen classic Resident Evil 4, which most gamers probably remember looking incredible - even without the added resolution. Both of these titles will be available as downloadable games over the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live’s Games on Demand service.

The new clip also shows some footage from the upcoming titles Capcom has in store for Nintendo’s just-released console, the 3DS. While the gameplay style of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will look pretty familiar to anyone that dabbled with the Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 4 and 5, the stunning footage from Resident Evil: Revelations should be just enough to both satisfy and tease the heck out of fans looking for something new.

Resident Evil Characters in Operation Raccoon City

The trailer finishes off with another tease in the form of an ever-so-quick look at Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. This is the title that we’ve only just learned will be more about the shooting than the scaring.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been battling zombies, the T-Virus and Las Plagas for fifteen years. Capcom is definitely celebrating the milestone properly with this onslaught of Resident Evil releases. Which ones will you be playing? Is Mercenaries 3D or Revelations enough to make you drop some cash on a 3DS?

Resident Evil will be scaring the pants off of gamers throughout 2011 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS.
