While fans of the classic survival-horror game Clock Tower may never get a new entry in the series, the next best thing is coming a little earlier than expected. Remothered: Broken Porcelain, which is essentially a spiritual successor to the Clock Tower series, has had its release date moved up by one week and is now launching on October 13 instead of October 20.

EVP of Global Marketing at Modus Games, Shane Bierwith, offered a reasonable explanation as to why the decision was made to release Remothered: Broken Porcelain a week earlier than expected. As pointed out by Bierwith, October is an "incredibly busy month" for the video game industry, especially when it comes to horror games.

While not explicitly stated by Bierwith, it seems quite likely that Remothered's release date was moved so that the game wouldn't have to compete with Amnesia: Rebirth, specifically. After all, Amnesia was Remothered's only serious competition on October 20 prior to the release date change, and it's now actually sharing the spotlight with the new G.I. Joe third-person shooter. However, with Remothered and G.I. Joe significantly different games, it's safe to say that they won't exactly be directly competing with one another, which isn't the case with Remothered and Amnesia.

Regardless, Bierwith was right that October is shaping up to be a big month for horror game fans, with three major releases currently scheduled. Besides the aforementioned Remothered: Broken Porcelain and Amnesia: Rebirth, horror fans also have The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope to look forward to as well. Between the three of them, horror fans should have plenty of new games to play this Halloween.

In the meantime, Remothered is shaping up to be quite impressive, especially for fans of stealth-horror games like Clock Tower. In the game, players explore the creepy Ashmann Inn, all the while avoiding psychotic individuals that are actively attempting to hunt them down and kill them. Early previews have been mostly positive, but it will be interesting to see how fans react to the full experience.

The first Remothered was generally well-received by fans of the genre, though the Switch port left a somewhat sour taste in some fans' mouths. Even so, there's a reason why Remothered: Broken Porcelain has been considered one of the most-anticipated horror games of the year, and for the sake of horror enthusiasts and Clock Tower fans, here's hoping it lives up to the hype.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain launches October 13 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
