The next Rainbow Six game appears to be on the horizon. The game that used to be called Rainbow Six Quarantine has apparently received a new name and is expected to launch later this year. While the games in the long-running franchise have changed settings and gameplay has evolved over the years, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is still one of the better games in the entire group. It's been 13 years since that game was released, and it's one that sometimes gets forgotten when ticking off some of the top titles in the franchise, but it still stands out for the way it used a continuing story line, as well as huge improvements on the game that came before it.

One of the reasons that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was great was because it has a different kind of timeline than most other Rainbow Six games. This game was both a prequel and a sequel to the original Rainbow Six Vegas. The events in this edition had aspects of the story that took place before and during its predecessor. Some of the late-game action was also set after the first game ended. There were a few other changes and improvements added to the title.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2: The Protagonists

One of the biggest changes in this particular Rainbow Six game, when compared to its predecessor, is that the main protagonist isn't entirely static. Logan Keller was the main character in Rainbow Six Vegas, but he's replaced by a protagonist named Bishop in the sequel-prequel. This character's appearance could be adjusted to some degree to the liking of the player. They could also be either a male or female lead.

It's not entirely clear why, but while Ubisoft offered up the ability to play alongside a friend, it changed up how that worked. Four friends could team up in the "Terrorist Hunt" mode that still exists in some form like what people see in Rainbow Six Siege. However, in the main game and the main story, only two people could play cooperatively. The second player took on a character named Knight. This soldier's appearance was also determined by the game's character creator, making them unique.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2's Story

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 doesn't have the massive maps or overarching stories of some of the games that came after it, like Rainbow Six Parasite appears to be bringing. However, it does have a slightly larger storyline than its predecessor, thanks to it starting before and then going on past where its predecessor had. The game starts out with new protagonist Bishop and Bravo Team members Logan Keller and Gabriel Nowak participating in a hostage rescue operation in the Pyrénées that goes sideways. Bishop and the team are eventually able to pull the situation out of the fire, though not without being reassigned due to a critical failure.

Eventually, the story dovetails to where Bishop and the new Bravo team are sent into Las Vegas to try and take down a terrorist cabal at the same time as the events of the first Rainbox Six Vegas are taking place. It's also here where this Rainbow Six title carries on where the first story left off. This game finishes up by following Bishop's Bravo team to a Costa Rican village, where the eventual final battle plays out as only these final battles in Rainbow Six games can play out, with the good guys winning the day.
