Remedy Entertainment has been a consistent deliverer of AAA games since Max Payne's release in 2001 made the company a fixture in the industry. Yet it was 2019's Control that reestablished Remedy as one of the industry's foremost studios, with action-adventure title racking up a number of awards. To say fans are anxious about what Remedy is working on next would be an understatement. Luckily, Remedy creative director Same Lake has something new to share with those fans.

In a post on Twitter, Lake offered a tease at what's to come from Remedy. The Max Payne lookalike posted a photo of himself holding a thick stack of papers, with the text of the post teasing, "Here's the story for the next big Remedy game." Then, in a perhaps exhausted tone, Lake adds, "Well, one draft of it at least." It sounds like Remedy's made significant progress on its next game's story, but there are probably a few rounds of editing to go before it's all finalized.

The good news is that Remedy's making clear progress on its next major project, but the bad news is that there's clearly a lot of development left to do on the project, too. To be fair, Remedy's typically quite fast in terms of putting out new releases, but even then a 2022 or 2023 release window seems most likely. Control was only released last year, after all. Regardless, while Lake definitely intended to tease fans with his post, it's best to maintain reasonable expectations.

As for what Lake may be teasing that Remedy is working on, that's a big mystery. The one project that Remedy is confirmed to be working on right now is a single-player campaign for the South Korean competitive first-person shooter CrossfireX. Since that's coming out in 2021, Remedy's probably had that story wrapped up for some time. It's more likely to be one of the two projects Remedy has partnered with Epic Games to make, which is all the more exciting.

Epic Games is financing two Remedy projects, a major title and a smaller one. The larger game is said to be part of the shared universe in which both Alan Wake and Control take place. It could be a Control sequel, or it could be an Alan Wake sequel. It may be something else entirely. Of course, it could be the smaller game, too, which could be anything.

It wouldn't be a Remedy project if it wasn't enshrouded in mystery. That's how Remedy and Sam Lake like to do things. If there's one solid takeaway from Lake's teaser, it's that Remedy is hard at work producing its next game. Further, Remedy very much wants its fans to look forward to it.
