Welcome to the first week of August, or, as I like to call it, “the comedown.” After the megaton that is StarCraft 2 hit last week, this week’s batch of new games was bound to look a little dull in comparison.

Really, though, did the drop off have to be this dramatic? We’re not asking for much here, just a couple of new games to play. We’re gamers — that’s what we do. In any case, you should still take a look at the new releases for the week of August 1 through 7, 2010, broken out by platform and date.

Most weeks, a title like Disney Sing It: Family Hits wouldn’t even merit a mention in this part of Game Rant’s new release list. This week, however, simply by virtue of coming out on a couple of different platforms, it could end up being a (relative) sales success. So, here goes.

Family Hits has 30 tracks from Disney films old and new, and Anika Noni Rose, who voiced Princess Tiana in The Princess and the Frog, is your vocal coach in the game. Needless to say, you’ll be needing a microphone if you want to play this. Wii owners can buy the game bundled with a Logitech mic. PS3 players will have to come up with something on their own.

Look, this really isn’t the kind game we cover much on Game Rant, but if you happen to have some Disney-crazed kids, and your family likes singing games, there are probably worse things you could buy.

Likely coming to the rescue for a number of gamers this week is Microsoft’s third Summer Of Arcade 2010 title, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. It has to be said, Summer of Arcade is really delivering some great games this year. We loved Limbo, and Hydro Thunder Hurricane is a lot of fun, too. Harmony of Despair is a classic side-scrolling Castlevania adventure with up to six player co-op. Could be cool.

Next week we’re back to the big names, with the 2011 installment of EA’s venerable Madden franchise. Be sure to check out our Madden NFL 11 demo impressions, and check back next week to see Game Rant’s verdict on the full game.

As always, we want to hear from you – are you picking up any of this week’s new releases? What games on the horizon are you looking forward to?
