The former president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, has been a fan-favorite for quite some time. He burst onto the scene at E3 2004 and helped guide Nintendo through a historic decade and a half for the company. As a super-fan of Nintendo himself, he recently revealed in a recent interview that when he applied for his Nintendo role in 2003, he didn't own a GameCube, but instead he had in his home a PS2 and Xbox (the two competing consoles of the GameCube).

Reggie retired from Nintendo last year, and although he has dozens of silly memes online and fans adore him, he was known for his professionalism and closed lips when it came to revealing information about what happened behind the secret closed doors of the Big N. Since his retirement, however, he has started to open up about intriguing details in regards to the world-famous gaming company.

When Reggie arrived in 2003, the company probably didn't know that they were hiring someone that would go on to be one of the more memorable icons in video game culture. Reggie says that in 2003 Nintendo was in an interesting place. According to him, Sony was dominating the marketplace with the PS2 and Microsoft had just gotten started with the Xbox. Reggie believed that Nintendo was in an uncomfortable position. Although Reggie loved the classic Nintendo consoles and owned the SNES and N64, Reggie didn't own a GameCube and instead played on the PS2 and Xbox.

Reggie went on to say that this perspective gave him the chance, as a consumer, to see where Nintendo could improve from a sales and marketing angle, and from an overall perspective. In general, it seemed like Reggie had a sense about him to know how Nintendo should hold onto that Nintendo magic and how they should progress forward. Nintendo once tried to overhaul its classic logo, but Reggie put a stop to it.

As Reggie Fils-Aime passed the torch to new President of Nintendo of America Doug Bowser, some of these stories are only a reminder of the massive shoes that Bowser has to fill. Bowser recently revealed that his favorite game of all time is Myst, a non-Nintendo game, which in some ways is similar to Reggie not owning a GameCube as he took on his role in 2003. Bowser now has the opportunity to bring his own unique perspective to Nintendo just as Reggie did.
