A couple of months ago, it was announced that popular Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime would be retiring on April 15. Today is Reggie's last day as Nintendo of America president and COO, and while he isn't getting the rumored Nintendo Direct sendoff that some expected, he has joined Twitter so fans can stay in touch.

Reggie's decision to join Twitter has blown up on the popular social media platform. Reggie made his first Twitter post just two hours ago, but yet he already has 98.1 thousand followers and counting. His profile picture on Twitter seems to be of him speaking at some kind of Nintendo event, and so perhaps that could be a sign that Reggie will still discuss gaming on his Twitter feed.

The first tweet from Reggie is of an action-figure of him holding a sign with his Twitter handle. At the time of this writing, Reggie's first Twitter post has nearly 6,000 comments, over 18,000 re-tweets, and over 60,000 hearts. Those are pretty impressive stats from someone who just joined Twitter and wrote their first tweet a couple of hours ago, to say the least.

Reggie's Twitter fame shouldn't come a big surprise, however, as he has always been somewhat of an Internet darling. Reggie's appearances at Nintendo press conferences and events over the years have inspired numerous memes, with perhaps the most famous being "My body is ready." Over the years, there have been plenty of great Reggie moments, and the Internet has kept those moments alive.

When Reggie announced his retirement from Nintendo, he quickly became a trending topic on Twitter. And in fact, the reaction to Reggie's retirement on Twitter was so great that literal articles were written about it. Considering all the love there seems to be for Reggie on Twitter, it's fitting that he has now joined the social media platform himself.

Moving forward, Reggie fans can expect his Twitter account to grow. It's not all that clear at the moment what exactly he will be using it for, but it's safe to say that many gamers will be following it.
