Reggie Fils-Aime is stepping down from his role at GameStop. The former Nintendo of America President is retiring from his position at GameStop only 12 months after starting it. GameStop's future is not fully known, but the former Nintendo leader still has his hands in many different areas.

Last March, Fils-Aime joined GameStop's Board of Directors with his breadth of video game knowledge. Coming from years of Nintendo experience, Fils-Aime brought a unique perspective to the table. However, just barely a year later, he is retiring from the position.

It should be noted that Reggie is not the only person who is leaving the Board of Directors role. Lizabeth Dunn, Paul Evans, Raul J. Fernandez, Reginald Fils-Aime, William Simon, James K. Symancyk, Carrie W. Teffner, and Kathy P. Vrabeck (formally of Activision) are all retiring from their positions with GameStop, according to a recent GameStop news report. GameStop also notes that the eight members leaving has nothing to do with a disagreement in relation to operations, policies, or practices. It would seem that this is simply a change in direction for the company. In early March, GameStop was working on a change to its sales strategy; this may be a part of that decision.

The contemplated retirements are not because of a disagreement with us on any matter relating to our operations, policies or practices.

It will be interesting to monitor GameStop after the Reddit Stock fiasco. The situation is rather unprecedented. While the company was able to benefit to a degree, it is hard to count on anything moving forward. GameStop will likely attempt to create a solid business strategy moving forward and not rely on a very fluid and potentially unstable stock situation.

As far as Reggie's other responsibilities, he will likely have more than enough on his plate to stay busy. Reggie is still the Strategic Advisor at Rogue Games, has hosted video game awards, and more. Reggie Fils-Aime was known as one of the most important and influential leaders in gaming within his generation. But even after he left Nintendo, he has continued to stay involved within the video game world.

Even outside of the video game world, Reggie has found work that he enjoys in his retirement from Nintendo. Fils-Aime is on the Board of Directors for the Brunswick Corporation, a boating-lifestyle brand company. While "kicking ass and taking names" on the E3 stage is something that Reggie is known for--along with being very shrewd and effective in the business world--it is likely very nice to kick back and relax on the open waters in the land of retirement.
