Adglobe and Binary Haze Interactive, the developer and publisher behind Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, have released the first trailer for their next project, Redemption Reapers. The indie game developer and publisher last released a game together in 2021, with their upcoming project slated to release soon.

Helping lead this new project is Masayuki Horikawa, who previously worked as a scenario planner and director for the Fire Emblem series, including Fire Emblem Fates for the Nintendo 3DS. Drawing upon his past work, and with the turn-based gameplay serving as a connecting hook between them, Horikawa and the teams behind this project seek to tell a story of redemption and the wartime horrors associated with earning it.

Set in a world overtaken by the zombie-like Mort, a band of rebels and mercenaries known as the Ashen Hawk Brigade stands against them in the hopes of turning the tide. As nations fall to the onslaught of the Mort, these grim survivors make no effort to hide from their checkered pasts as murderers and cutthroats. In the first trailer for Redemption Reapers, which was released on December 13, some of the combat and English voice-acted dialogue was shown. According to the developers, the voice cast included actors such as Kyle McCarley, who voiced the precocious android 9S in Nier: Automata, and Lucien Dodge, the voice of the DLC fighter Sin Kaske in Guilty Gear: Strive.

The combat, which drew inspiration from other turn-based strategy RPGs such as the recently released Tactics Ogre: Reborn and the aforementioned Fire Emblem series, showed that surprise attacks and chain attacks could be executed with different face buttons, depending on how many friendly units surround particular enemy units. With stealth and ambush tactics over a 3D map taking precedence in combat, players will need to adjust to their team's strengths and weaknesses when planning a coordinated assault on enemy units and avoid being overrun by the hordes of the Mort. It is currently unknown how many characters will be playable, but players can use their spoils from combat to further customize and upgrade the weapons and armor of their units as they see fit.

Redemption Reapers is planned to release sometime in February 2023 on PC via Steam, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. The planned multiplatform release is similar to what the well-received Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights did before it. Whether it matches its success or gets swarmed over by other games in 2023 remains to be seen. With a dark narrative and setting to match, Redemption Reapers will be a game to keep tabs on as its release draws near.

Redemption Reapers will be released in February 2023 for PC, PS4, and Switch.
