On the r/gaming subreddit, user Carl_Sammons posted a picture showcasing their collection of N64 games, which features a grand total of 297 cartridges. This collection is far from a random selection, though, as it contains every single game that was ever released for the system in North America.

Exactly 296 games were officially licensed to be released on the N64 in North America. Since Carl_Sammons has a total of 297 games, one of them is presumably a duplicate or an N64 game that is exclusive to a different region of the world.

Carl_Sammons is a frequent contributor to the r/n64 subreddit, and their post history reads like a love letter to the cherished console. Only five months ago, they released a picture of their N64 collection, which at the time contained 197 games, meaning that they collected 100 more games in less than half a year. Among their posts are also several other fascinating objects from the console's history, including a complete set of games for the N64 Disc Drive, an obscure, disk based add-on only released in Japan, and an even more unusual keyboard attachment for the N64.

For those who grew up with the console, or who later went back to play any of the N64's much beloved library, the image should spark a lot of nostalgia and memories. It seems that not all of these memories are good for Carl_Sammons, though, and they have indicated that Superman 64 is their least favorite game on the system.

Viewers who are very attentive may also notice that the picture actually only contains 296 games of the full collection of 297. According to the poster, this is because the critically acclaimed, 3D collect-a-thon platformer Banjo-Kazooie was apparently still in their mom's N64. Concerned video game connoisseurs can thereby rest assured that the integrity of the collection's wholeness has been affirmed.

For those looking to collect their own copies of every N64 game released in North America, there is an easier, if potentially more expensive, method than shopping for cartridges individually. Occasionally, full sets of all 296 games will appear on eBay, though these sets generally cost several thousand dollars. It's not cheap, but  it's a beautiful sight, as can be seen in the image above.
