While gamers still need to wait another month and a half before being able to play Red Faction: Armageddon, the downloadable arcade tie-in is now available to play. Titled Red Faction: Battlegrounds, THQ's latest release is available on XBLA and PSN.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds lets players jump into a variety of vehicles and in Demolition Derby style, can use both sticks on the controller to drive around, destroying the opposition - this time, with more guns and explosions. Read on for the Red Faction: Battlegrounds trailer and screenshots.

Grab your tank, your mech or your rover and jump into this new take on the Red Faction universe. The best part of this game is that, in traditional franchise fashion, you can destroy the environment. As a bonus to fans who will pick up Red Faction: Armageddon when it releases next month, if players reach rank 10 in Battlegrounds, they'll be awarded 2000 Salvage Points to use in Armageddon. These points can be used to purchase in-game upgrades for your character, Darius Mason's Nano Forge and weapons. If you're good enough to hit rank 20 though, you'll also have access to a special rifle called the "Enforcer."

The Enforcer, an EDF rapid fire smart rifle that uses heat-seeking ammunition to take town enemy targets. Each bullet is embedded with a microchip that helps each fired round to curve and home in on its target.
