A listing on an online British retailer’s website potentially leaks the release date for Rockstar Games’ forthcoming western title Red Dead Redemption 2.

About a week ago, a retail promo stand for Red Dead Redemption 2 further confirmed that Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated western sequel will go on to release in fall 2017, but the studio has yet to confirm a precise date by not including the month and day of its launch. Now it seems as if Red Dead Redemption 2 could have potentially had its release date leaked by a listing on an online British retailer Littlewoods’ website.

As seen in the screenshot below taken by the Red Dead Redemption 2 fan site RDR2, Littlewoods initially listed the forthcoming game as having a release date of October 2, 2017, which would coincide perfectly with Rockstar’s confirmation that the title is set to launch this fall. However, Littlewoods has since changed the date that it had originally listed, with the time frame for the game’s availability on the British retailer’s site now showing a date of December 29, 2017.

While many will argue that the October release date shown for Red Dead Redemption 2 was more than likely just a placeholder for the time being – it does, after all, fall on a Monday, which isn’t a common launch day for games – then it wouldn’t make much sense for Littlewoods to now have posted that the game will have December launch instead. However, perhaps the retailer realized how its tentative listing closely paralleled Rockstar Games’ announcement of a fall release and decided to change it in order to avoid getting in trouble with the developer, but that’s simply speculation

Although Rockstar has yet to officially confirm the exact release date for Red Dead Redemption 2, it doesn’t change the fact that the title is easily one of the most anticipated video games of 2017, with there surely being plenty of fans waiting in the wings to pick up their copy once it finally goes on sale. As a matter of fact, the western game is so eagerly awaited that it even has major gaming industry figures like Hideo Kojima pining after its eventual release.

As it stands, very little is known about the actual in-game materials for Red Dead Redemption 2, much less when fans should expect to hear more about them. Obviously, with there being a seven year gap between the original RDR and the forthcoming sequel, it’s an intelligent move on Rockstar’s part to slowly eke out details about the game and play its marketing strategy close to the vest in a bid to keep the title shrouded in mystery and expectation.

Despite the fact that there aren’t many pieces of concrete information to go on save for Red Dead Redemption 2‘s first official trailer, some industry analysts are already predicting massive amounts of success for Rockstar and its western game. To be specific, the research firm known as Cowen & Company released a statement declaring that the excitement surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 helps give it the potential to eventually sell 15 million copies. Undoubtedly, most gamers are ready to help Rockstar achieve that feat, but the studio will have to provide fans with a solid release date first.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently set to launch sometime in fall 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
