Much like its sequel, the original Red Dead Redemption is full of details for players to pick up on. As such, one gamer was quick to pick up on something missing from their version of Red Dead Redemption, and the repercussions are fun to think about.

The missing detail can be found in the Mexico levels of the original Red Dead Redemption, which many consider to be a standout portion of the game. Eventually, John Marston will find himself in a poker game, sitting down with Ricketts and Muller. While things start off normally, they quickly turn hostile, with Muller getting frustrated with John and claiming that he has cheated. This results in a Mexican Standoff, with John and Muller eventually agreeing to a one-on-one duel.

Duels in Red Dead Redemption are much like the ones that took place in real life, as they saw both opponents standing across from each other. Testing a player’s patience and reaction time, the setup is a good bit different from the usual shooting that takes place in the series. While some gamers do struggle with the concept, most will have no issue making it through the first duel with Muller. Not only does Ricketts provide an explanation of what to do, but the fight is intentionally easy. However, Redditor ShadowyPepper found that their version of John was not equipped for a fight.

Posting a screenshot to the Red Dead Redemption 2 subreddit, the player shows that their holster is empty. While John Marston’s aim may be solid, even the best gunslinger would not be able to overcome those odds, as Muller would gun down a defenseless John with ease. Unsurprisingly, this led to a lot of entertaining comments, with Redditors joking that John could just use some finger guns instead. While it would be great to see this play out, the missing handgun was definitely not intentional.

The normal version of the duel does feature a revolver in John’s holster, so it seems like ShadowyPepper was just suffering from a small visual bug. Regardless, there is a lot of fun to be had with this inconsistency, as the glitch is funny as opposed to game breaking. When looking at the photo, it is hard not to think about the Red Dead Redemption protagonist reaching for his gun but finding nothing there, as it would have ensured that John met his end a bit sooner than he was meant to.

With some recent Red Dead Redemption 2 bugs leading to some funny scenarios as well, it is clear that the silly glitches are not only limited to the original title. Whether they are playing the 2010 game or its 2019 follow-up, fans of the series always manage to stumble across some strange moments.

Red Dead Redemption is available now on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
