Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption II are both made by Rockstar Games, so it could be expected the two series have references to each other. What players might not realize is there are a few hints the two series take place in the same universe. With the time difference between the HD Universe of Grand Theft Auto and the Red Dead Redemption series, there is a bit of plausibility the series are related.

By meeting certain characters or by exploring the games' worlds, players are able to find hints that the two series are more related than Rockstar lets on.

10 Treasure Hunt From A Van Der Linde

Before Red Dead 2 came out, players in Grand Theft Auto Online were sent an email that would lead them on a treasure hunt. The reward was a double-action revolver that is also found in Red Dead 2, but the sender of the email has an interesting name.

The email sent to the player is from a vanderlinde@eyefind.com, a reference to Dutch Van Der Linde. Perhaps Dutch had a child he didn't know about during his time as an outlaw.

9 UFOs Have A Similar Appearance

UFOs make an appearance in both Red Dead Redemption II  and in Grand Theft Auto V. Players who look closely at the UFOs might notice they look similar. This could mean aliens have been visiting the Rockstar Games universe for quite a while.

While Rockstar could be reusing assets from other games, there is still the chance it is the same group visiting earth. Maybe at some point in Red Dead Online aliens will make an appearance, confirming if they are the same species from Grand Theft Auto.

8 Kraff Descendant Makes An Appearance

In Red Dead Redemption II, the player is able to meet a man named Francis Sinclair, who has a birthmark on his eye and speaks with an accent from the 1920s. Fans of Grand Theft Auto will recognize this as a birthmark of a descendant of Kraff, who is related to the Epsilon Program.

This is probably the best evidence Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto are in the same universe. Maybe Francis will make an appearance in a future GTA title, confirming the two are related.

7 Strange Man Mentioned In GTA Online

The Strange Man is a mysterious individual who takes an interest in John Marston during the first Red Dead Redemption. The Madam Nazar fortune-telling machine in GTA Online makes a reference to the Strange Man, saying she sees a strange man in a tall hat. It is also worth noting she says the man frightens her.

With the other references the fortune-telling machine makes, it would appear the Strange Man is acknowledged as being real. The Strange Man might just make more appearances through the two series.

6 Madam Nazar Appears As Fortune-Telling Machine

Madam Nazar appears as a roaming merchant that acts as the Collector's Role leader in Red Dead Online. Nazar also makes an appearance as a fortune-telling machine in GTA Online. The fortune-telling machine can make references to both Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto.

Nazar can make references to the town of Limpany, how Nigel is trying to find his friend, and even references to when the mechanic use to deliver vehicles in GTA Online. It is cool to think Madam Nazar could live on as a fortune-telling machine, still being able to interact with protagonists.

5 Serial Killer's Revolver Found In Both

Players in GTA Online are able to find a revolver that once belonged to the serial killer Edmund Lowry from Red Dead 2. Players could acquire this revolver by finding and killing a serial killer who lived in Blaine County. It makes an appearance in Red Dead Online as well, under the name Lowry's Revolver.

The revolver in Red Dead Online can be found in a lockbox at Lucky's Cabin, which was used by the serial killer. The revolver has tally marks on the grip and the words 'YOU'RE NEXT' on the top.

4 Family Of Sasquatch Hunters

The Sasquatch hunter makes his first appearance during the Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption. He tasks the player with finding the Sasquatch and is then never seen again. One of his descendants makes an appearance in Grand Theft Auto V.

By getting 100% completion in GTA V, Franklin unlocks another Strangers and Freaks mission. The player can meet a man hunting Sasquatch who mentions he will make his great-grandfather proud. Both had a very similar appearance too, wearing the same hat and missing their left eye.

3 Stone Hatchet Found In Both Games

Players in GTA Online are able to acquire a stone hatchet by completing 5 different bounty targets. The same hatchet makes an appearance in Red Dead Redemption II, being picked up at a Native American burial site.

While it is known this was a promotional weapon to promote Red Dead Online, perhaps the family passed the weapon down until it made its way to Los Santos. It is interesting, the online protagonists for both games could have had the same weapon.

2 Familiar Street Names Found

In the town of Sandy Shores, there is a street names Armadillo Avenue, which is the same name as the town located in New Austin. There is also a Cholla Springs Avenue, named for a region located in New Austin. While Sandy Shores definitely is not located in what was once New Austin, it could mean the two locations are close.

It is not uncommon to name streets after famous areas, making it more than likely Sandy Shores is located close to New Austin. Maybe after the Cholera outbreak in Armadillo, some of its residents moved on to what is now San Andreas.

1 Book Written By J. Marston Found

In the homes of the protagonists of Grand Theft Auto V, the player can find a book titled 'Red Dead' that is written by a J. Marston. This is most likely referring to Jack Marston, who could have gone on to write a book about the Van Der Linde gang and his father's life afterward.

It is a happy thought that Jack went on to write a book, achieving one of his dreams and making sure the memory of the Van Der Linde gang never dies.
