With pre-release trailers and previews, Rockstar has made it clear that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a massive game. There's a huge amount for players to do in the cowboy epic, including everything from beating its story campaign to hunting for the many legendary animals as well as keeping the other gang members happy. But in case this wasn't enough, Rockstar is already discussing its plans for the next game.

Speaking in a new interview, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser revealed that Red Dead Redemption 3 is on the cards. While the studio is very much focused on Red Dead Redemption 2 right now, Houser explained that "if this one does well enough and we think we have other interesting things to say.” Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year so it seems likely that the game will sell incredibly well and that Rockstar will have good reason to work on a follow-up.

Houser didn't provide any hints at what Red Dead Redemption 3 may cover and from an outsider's point of view, it would take a wild guess. With the original Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar addressed the death of the Wild West and how modernization was changing the cowboy way of life. Red Dead Redemption 2 will touch upon this slightly but is more focused on the nitty-gritty of being an outlaw on the run. Could Red Dead Redemption 3 let players take on the role of a lawman or someone who is just finding their feet as a cowboy (or girl)?

Many will also be wondering how Rockstar could possibly expand itself world and what platforms it would be available on. As mentioned, Red Dead Redemption 2 is incredibly large and features the biggest map ever in a Rockstar game. It also appears to be extremely detailed too and fans will be curious to see how Rockstar could possibly 1-up itself.

And, if Rockstar is to improve upon Red Dead Redemption 2, will that require increased power on a new generation of consoles? Rumors are growing that a new generation of consoles will launch in the next couple of years and Rockstar titles famously take a long time to develop. As such, if people want to play Red Dead Redemption 3 they'll likely have to wait until the next-generation of consoles or even beyond.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled to launch on October 26, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
