Whenever players complete a treasure map in Red Dead Redemption 2, like the Poisonous Trail treasure map or the Jack Hall Gang treasure map, they are usually rewarded with some gold bars. Gold bars are some of the most valuable items in the entire game, but they're virtually useless if players don't know where to sell them.

Due to how valuable gold bars are in Red Dead Redemption 2, players can't just take them to any General Store on the map and expect to unload them. Instead they'll need to visit one of the fences on the map. Some fences are available just by traveling to their location and speaking with them, but two actually have to be unlocked by completing specific story missions first.

The first fence players are likely to unlock is the one located at the Emerald Ranch after completing the Chapter 2 story mission "The Spines of America" for Hosea. The Emerald Ranch fence is especially useful because players can also sell stolen wagons and horses to him, not just gold bars. A similar fence can be unlocked north of Clemens Point by completing the Chapter 3 story mission "Horse Flesh for Dinner."

Here is where to find all of the fences in Red Dead Redemption 2 to sell gold bars and other valuable items:

red dead redemption 2 saint denis fence
red dead redemption 2 rhodes

While Red Dead Redemption 2 players will always have legitimate ways to seek out gold bars in-game, right now there is a glitch that gives players a ton of gold bars in a short amount of time. Rockstar is likely to patch it out of the game soon, but for now players can exploit a box of gold bars found in Limpany to get 30 gold bars a pop.

Each gold bar is worth $500, so doing the gold bar exploit once will get players a cool $15,000 in cash. That amount of cash will go a very long way in Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing players to fully upgrade the camp and letting them buy basically anything else they want in the game. Of course, players will need to visit one of the fences to actually sell those gold bars, but few would say it wasn't worth the trip.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
