For months, those looking forward to Red Dead Redemption 2 have speculated on what the game might be about. Fans have pieced together tidbits of information and have come up with their own theories on just what Rockstar Games' next cowboy epic will entail. Thankfully for those fans, Rockstar has finally answered their calls for more information, having released official story details alongside the game's latest trailer.

Here is the official Red Dead Redemption 2 story description:

"After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him."

Fans have already been gifted a brief look at the thieving antics of the Van der Linde gang by way of a previous Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. That footage, which seems to have been inspired by a Brad Pitt cowboy movie, showed the group preparing to rob a train in the middle of the night. If a large part of Red Dead Redemption 2 features the outlaws having to rob and steal, then there could potentially be multiple show-stopping moments like this train robbery sequence. Rockstar Games may well have developed the wild west version of the heists from Grand Theft Auto 5.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer

Previously released Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots have also offered a glimpse of what sort of conflicts the Van der Linde gang finds itself getting into. There are buildings falling apart as well as buildings on fire, which is just par for the course when a notorious outlaw gang is facing off against the best bounty hunters and federal agents.

However, the law and the divisions within the gang are not the only hurdles that Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang will find themselves up against. As the new trailer details, Red Dead Redemption 2 will also feature the winding down of the wild west. The time of cowboys and outlaws like Arthur and co. is about to turn into "myth" as the country moves into a more modern era.

Rockstar Games is famed for the way that it weaves social issues into the narratives and how it ties the action into what's actually happening in the setting around the characters. Judging by the new trailer and that informative story blurb, Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature more of what Rockstar Games is known for, and that seems like good news for fans.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to launch on October 26, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
