Although it typically isn’t Rockstar Games’ style, the developer has announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 will have a few special editions available when it releases in late October. Rockstar plans to say more about what those special editions are, and presumably what they include, next month.

News of the Red Dead Redemption 2 special editions came as part of a follow-up to the big trailer release that happened last week. Finally, players got to see Red Dead Redemption 2 in full focus, with character teases, story details, and a clearer look at the game’s visuals. Obviously, there was no gameplay on display, but hands-off previews that hit a day later helped give fans a better sense of how the game plays.

The follow-up post from Rockstar also included a couple Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots for those players looking for a new desktop wallpaper or who simply want to analyze every detail about the game. Admittedly, the game is looking rather impressive, so any chance to marvel at Rockstar Games’ technical prowess is a welcome distraction.

On the topic of special editions, typically Rockstar Games doesn’t offer them for their games, but that trend changed slightly with the release of Grand Theft Auto 5. For that game, Rockstar did offer a special edition that included some pack-in goodies like a map of Los Santos and a SteelBook case for the game. The special edition also offered some in-game items as well, like bonus outfits and weapons.

Presumably, that is what the Red Dead Redemption 2 special edition will likely include, but the use of “special editions” as a plural has prompted some additional speculation. We know that the PS4 version of the came will include some exclusive content, so there may be a special edition for Sony consumers that offers something extra on top of the exclusives.

Assuming that Red Dead Redemption 2 will have an online multiplayer component there may also be a special edition that includes some fast track items for use in that mode. Some extra money or costumes/weapons to give players a leg up on the competition.

When Rockstar says next month, most would assume that means at E3 2018, but there is no guarantee the developer will make an appearance. In fact, Rockstar tends to avoid the event, as evidenced by the trailer new trailer releasing in May. Still, look for more news on Red Dead Redemption 2 at some point in June.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases October 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
