Although little is confirmed about Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world western, keen-eyed fans seem to have spotted what they believe to be the game's protagonist in several Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots. Since the same person seems to be recurring in all of the game's art, it seems to hint that the figure will be the sole playable character, though this is only speculation at this point.

In all the trailers and artwork so far, we've been unable to get a good look at any of the main cast of Red Dead Redemption 2, though there's one character that keeps appearing. Dressed in a long duster coat, with a pointed hat that's bound with a rope, the mysterious figure could well be our protagonist. What's more, he tends to be the focus of each shot which many believe implies a lead role.

If the third installment in the Red Dead franchise really does only feature one protagonist, it'll be a change of pace from GTA V's multiple character format, but not an unwelcome one. Many who criticized Rockstar's previous title believe single leads such as the iconic John Marston to be preferable to the three protagonist strategy, and likely want another strong main from the recently-delayed game.

Hopefully Rockstar won't be taking too much inspiration from Grand Theft Auto when it comes to Red Dead Redemption 2, as many players have concerns that the company will focus too much on the title's online multiplayer and neglect the game's story. GTA Online is incredibly profitable for the developer, and we're hoping that great DLC such as Undead Nightmare will still be coming our way, rather than simply handfuls of expansions for online gameplay.

In other recent Red Dead news, Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive has seen a fall in stock prices, shortly after the announcement that the eagerly-awaited sequel is no longer going to release this year. Though this was not altogether unexpected from a delay announcement, we're sure that the game will be much more polished when it eventually does release in Spring 2018, something that is sure to restore investor faith in the company.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is now set to release Spring 2018.
