Game Informer (Matt Bertz)

Rockstar Games has outdone itself again with Red Dead Redemption 2. The up-close portrayal of the outlaw Van der Linde gang’s unraveling is a compelling companion story that blends seamlessly with the original game, and depth and breadth of the open world is a technical triumph that every gamer should experience.

Score: 10/10

GamesRadar (David Meikleham)

There’s no way to say the following without sounding wildly definitive, so here goes…. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best looking video game of all time. Yes, EVER. And that includes Uncharted 4. It’s also the best game of the past five years. Compare this Wild West epic to GTA 3’s blocky Liberty City and its cast of fugly thugs you probably kneecapped on a tiny TV 17 years ago, and the evolution is astounding. At times, it’s scarcely believable how good Rockstar’s latest sandbox looks and feels.

Eurogamer (Martin Robinson)

An astounding open world unlikely to be rivalled until well into the next gen, saddled by a throughline from the last.

Kotaku (Kirk Hamilton)

It is both an exhilarating glimpse into the future of entertainment and a stubborn torch bearer for an old-fashioned kind of video game design. It is a remarkable work of game development and, possibly, a turning point in how we remark upon the work of game development. It is amazing; it is overwhelming. It is a lot, and also, it is a whole, whole lot.

IGN (Luke Reilly)

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game of rare quality; a meticulously polished open world ode to the outlaw era.

Score: 10/10

GameSpot (Kallie Plagge)

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it's also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it's a world that is hard to leave when it's done.

Score: 9/10

Polygon (Chris Plante)

After Red Dead Redemption 2’s story concludes, a huge epilogue begins, and the game’s already gargantuan map grows even larger. I’m eager to dig into this postgame, where it seems I’ll be free to focus on taking in the beautiful, meticulously simulated world, rather than hurling myself into the middle of it. The coda reminds me of a trend that has benefited other open-world games through expansions — a smaller, more straightforward tale that makes use of this big, expensive world without having to justify every inch of its existence.

Score: [Polygon Recommends]

VG24/7 (Kirk McKeand)

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a brave prequel that isn’t afraid of taking risks. It is innovative, surprising, stunning, dramatic, and generous - a highlight of this generation and a benchmark for other open world games to aspire to.

DualShockers (Ryan Meitzler)

Red Dead Redemption 2 aimed high in delivering players a living, breathing world, and it has surely hit its mark as Rockstar’s deepest, most immersive experience yet.

Destructoid (Chris Carter)

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the epitome of ambition and like most things Rockstar, will meet the expectations associated with it.

Forbes (Dave Thier)

Both its triumphs and its failures live at grand extremes: maddening, beautiful and awesome. The game hits each every one of its moments with grace and force, whether they're bombastic gunfights or a small moment on a boat in a lake outside Blackwater. I'm leaving my playtime overwhelmed, emotional and drained in a way that I haven't quite felt since the original Red Dead Redemption.

If the reviews are anything to go by, then Red Dead Redemption 2 is a must-play title for any and all gamers, and there's no doubt that a plethora of players are pre-loading it on PS4 and Xbox One right now. Speaking of platforms, though, it's safe to say that PC players would like to get in on the action as well, but Rockstar has yet to officially divulge any details regarding the possibility of a PC port in the future.

Several days ago, the European multinational retailer MediaMarkt ignited rumors that Rockstar may eventually release Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC after posting a launch window for the product, giving hope to players that the game would come to the platform next year. Unfortunately, though, the retailer later confirmed that it was just a placeholder date.

Nevertheless, MediaMarkt did state at the time that it only listed the date in anticipation of Rockstar announcing RDR2 on PC. So, there's still a possibility the European company has some insider knowledge on the matter that could indicate a PC release down the line.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on October 26, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
