Rockstar Games has already delighted its fans this week by releasing a new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. That new video sheds light on the game's story and explores the motives and actions of the Van der Linde gang as the wild west era is coming to a close. However, that trailer is not the only big Red Dead Redemption 2 reveal from this week, as previews of the game have also offered up lots of new information.

Rockstar Games recently invited some members of the press to view a 45-minute long demo of Red Dead Redemption 2 in action, also answering some questions about the game. Speaking to IGN, Rob Nelson, the co-studio head of Rockstar North, acknowledged that "some people may have never played the last one" and said that "you don't need any knowledge of the last one to experience this one to the fullest extent." However, "if you played the last one, there'll be lots of fun things," revealed Nelson.

Some of these "fun things" for returning Red Dead Redemption fans will include returning characters. Nelson described Red Dead Redemption 2 as a "companion piece" to the first game, and, since the two titles share "a lot of connective tissue," that means that there will be "lots of characters before that you'll see again."

These returning characters will include many members of the Van der Linde gang. Players will get to learn about characters such as Dutch Van der Linde, Bill Williamson, and Javier Escuella all through (the protagonist) Arthur Morgan's perspective. As the new trailer confirmed, Red Dead Redemption 2 will also feature John Marston, the lead of the first Red Dead Redemption. Nelson added that players will "see a lot of John through [Arthur Morgan's] eyes" though it's unclear exactly how much the outlaw will feature in the new game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 already seems to be building upon features that fans enjoyed from the first game. For example, Rockstar has confirmed that the game will feature online multiplayer in some capacity, which is good news to those who loved the multiplayer game modes of the original. Trailers also indicate that the game looks phenomenal as Rockstar has put in a lot of effort to make the wild west look better than ever. The suggestion that the game will go into more detail about many of these characters and could potentially feature other secrets and discoveries for returning fans to find will just be an added bonus.
